Kemmerer, Wyoming and Fossil Butte National Monument

My grandfather grew up on a ranch outside of Kemmerer, Wyoming.  As a child I took a few trips back to the 'ancestral homeland' with the family.  I don't remember much from those trips except for the two headed calf in the Kemmerer museum (below).  Those things make an impression on a little kid I guess. . .

We stopped in the center of town to look around.

We made a visit to the flagship J.C. Penney store.  My great grandfather knew J. C. Penney back in the day.  I guess you could say that this is Kemmerer's tourist attraction?

AND we found the two-headed calf. . .

After our trip to town, we detoured to Fossil Butte National Monument on the way to Grand Teton/Yellowstone.

They had a small, but nice, visitor center with copies (!) of some of the fossils that were found here.  A treasure trove.  You can still walk out with guides to hunt for fossils on the trail, but we didn't have enough time.
