Mother's Day in my heart

Having children is a joy beyond compare, the most fun and most rewarding thing I've ever done.  And definitely the most creative I've ever been . . . not just the biological creativity, but the daily aspects of parenting -- creating relationships with these little human beings that will enrich me, themselves, and the world they encounter in the future.

But, most of all, and what no one told me before I became a mother! -- is best summed up, for me anyway, with the quote below this picture:
               My early days of motherhood

"Children are a burden to a mother, but not in the way a heavy box is to a mule. Our children weigh hard on my heart, and thinking about them growing up honest and healthy, or just living to grow up at all, makes a load in my chest that is bigger than the safe at the bank, and more valuable to me than all the gold inside it."     From These is my words – Nancy Turner

'Burden' and 'Valuable' are the words that jump out at me!

So, if you are a Mom, God bless you and thank you!  If you have a Mom, remember the 'burden' part and thank her on Sunday!

  1. Hi, I saw your comment on CJane's blog about LDS voluntary childfree women. I have just about finished my doctoral thesis on the subject of women who choose not to have children (but not LDS women). it's mainly about the identity of woman who are childfree. What is your interest in the area? would love to hear about it

  2. Wonderful! I realized on the comment that I didn't leave my email. Email me at and I'd love to tell you what I've been thinking/wondering about. I would also LOVE to hear about your thesis!
